How are tarantulas shipped and how long does it take?
Fear Not Tarantulas ships via FedEx Priority on Mondays and Tuesdays only (weather permitting). Most orders arrive in 1–2 business days. Spiders are packed in insulated containers with heat packs or cool packs as needed, plus plenty of ventilation and moisture. You'll receive tracking the morning of shipment.
What if my spider arrives dead or dies soon after?
Every order has a 100% live arrival guarantee. If your spider arrives DOA (dead on arrival), contact them immediately with photos for a full replacement or refund. They stand behind every shipment. Most healthy captive-bred tarantulas live 10–20+ years with proper care.
What are the best tarantulas for a complete beginner?
Start with docile, forgiving species: Mexican Redknee (classic, calm), Curly Hair (fuzzy and hardy), Brazilian Black (easy and attractive), or Chilean Rose (great for handling practice). Avoid old-world species and fast movers like Green Bottle Blues until you're experienced.
Do I need a heat mat, thermostat, or special lighting?
For most common beginner species, no heat mat is required at normal room temperatures (68–78°F / 20–26°C). Tarantulas are not reptiles. A simple low-wattage LED or ambient room light is plenty. Overheating is far more dangerous than slightly cooler temps.
How big of an enclosure does my first tarantula need?
Much less than you think. A 5–10 gallon tank, 8x8x8 acrylic enclosure, or even a large Kritter Keeper works great for slings and juveniles. Adults of most beginner species do well in 10–20 gallon equivalents. Focus on secure lid, 3–4 inches of substrate, a hide, and a shallow water dish.
Is it legal to own a tarantula where I live?
In the vast majority of U.S. states and cities, yes — tarantulas are legal. A tiny number of places (Hawaii, some cities) have restrictions. Fear Not ships to all 48 contiguous states. Always double-check your local ordinances before ordering. They will not ship to restricted areas.
Can I buy from other sellers or just Fear Not Tarantulas?

How often do I feed a tarantula and what do they eat?
Crickets, roaches, or dubia are standard. Juveniles eat 1–2 times per week. Adults eat every 7–14 days (or even less). Remove uneaten prey after 24 hours. They can go months without eating with no issue — especially before molting. Fear Not includes free care sheets with every order.
